My name is Tu Gold, and I was born and raised in Saigon, Vietnam. I grew up with one older brother and one younger sister. From a very young age, I developed a deep passion for martial arts. Unfortunately, my elder brother was injured in a tournament, which led my parents to forbid me from training.
Despite their concerns, my determination only grew stronger. Without access to formal training, I began teaching myself. I ran stairs to build endurance, constructed a homemade striking post from a concrete-filled water pipe wrapped in a hose, and practiced every day after school. Although my methods were unconventional, they reflected my resilience and dedication.
One day, a family friend visited and observed my training. He kindly explained that my approach was not the correct way to study martial arts. He advised me to first focus on completing my education, earning a degree, and building a career. He also introduced me to meditation and the principles of the "Law of Attraction," which continue to guide me today.
After graduating from college and beginning my professional career, I was finally able to pursue martial arts formally. I enrolled in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (BJJ) classes and later studied Vietnamese Traditional Martial Arts (Bình Định) at a temple. Over the past nine years, I have explored martial arts from around the world. The more I study, the more I realize how much there is yet to learn.
Through this journey, I have met many friends at open mats, tournaments, and schools, all united by the same passion for sharing martial arts. For me, martial arts is not merely a business or a form of exercise—it is a way of life. It teaches morality, self-discipline, and the importance of helping others to grow.
I believe strongly in this philosophy:
“There is no enemy outside our soul. The real enemies live inside us: anger, ego, greed, and hate.”
